Robbie Ure's Sevilla Move Confirmed

Sevilla have completed the signing of Scottish striker Robbie Ure from Swedish league leaders IK Sirius for an initial fee of £5.5m, the club announced on Monday. The 22-year-old, who was surprisingly left out of Scotland's World Cup squad, has signed a five-year contract and will lead the line at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

The La Liga side will pay €6.5m up front, with a further €2.5m in add-ons. Ure becomes the third Scottish-born player to feature for Sevilla in official competition, following Ted McMinn in the 1980s and Duncan McVean Thomson during the 1915-16 season. Sevilla also highlighted two other Scots in their announcement: former manager Jock Wallace, who led the club during the 1986-87 season, and the club's first president, Edward Farquharson Johnston.

A Career Resurgence in Sweden

Ure's path to Sevilla has been anything but straightforward. He began his professional career at Rangers, where he scored once in three first-team appearances before moving to Belgian club Anderlecht in 2023. His time in Belgium was difficult, yielding just one senior appearance.

However, a move to IK Sirius in March 2025 proved transformative. Ure has scored 31 goals and provided seven assists in 50 appearances for the Swedish club. This season alone, he has netted 20 goals and added three assists in 20 matches across all competitions, including 15 league goals that have helped propel Sirius to the top of the Swedish table.

His prolific form attracted interest from across Europe, but Sevilla moved quickly to secure his signature. The opportunity to play in La Liga, one of Europe's top leagues, was a key factor in his decision.

World Cup Snub and International Ambitions

Ure's move to Sevilla comes just weeks after he was omitted from Scotland's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The striker, a former Scotland Under-19 international, had been hoping to force his way into the national team setup with his impressive club form, but the Scotland management ultimately decided against including him.

Despite the disappointment, Ure will now have a platform to showcase his talents at one of Spain's most storied clubs. Sevilla's faith in him is clear, and he will be expected to contribute goals immediately as the club aims for a strong La Liga campaign and a return to European competition.

For Scotland fans, Ure's development will be closely monitored. With the World Cup already underway, the striker will be eager to prove that his exclusion was a mistake, and his performances at Sevilla could force his way back into the international picture for future qualifiers.

Sevilla's Scottish Connection

Sevilla have a rich history with Scottish football figures, and Ure's arrival adds another chapter to that story. Ted McMinn, a winger known for his pace and trickery, played for the club in the 1980s, while Duncan McVean Thomson appeared during the 1915-16 season. Jock Wallace, who managed Sevilla in the 1986-87 season, is also remembered fondly by the club's supporters.

The signing of Ure represents a significant investment in youth and potential. At 22, he has time on his side, and his physicality and goal-scoring instincts make him a natural fit for the demanding style of La Liga. Sevilla's recruitment team will hope that Ure can emulate the success of other British players who have thrived in Spain.

As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on Ure as he prepares to make his debut in Spanish football. With the World Cup in the background, the striker has every incentive to hit the ground running and prove his doubters wrong.
