Spurs End Winless Run: Maddison, Marmoush Shine in 3-1 Coventry Win
Tottenham secure first Premier League win of the season with 3-1 victory over Coventry as James Maddison and Omar Marmoush score and Dejan Kulusevski returns after 526 days.
Spurs Finally Break Through
Tottenham Hotspur claimed their first Premier League win of the season on Monday night, defeating Coventry City 3-1 at home. The victory ends a six-game winless start to the campaign and lifts the gloom around N17, according to reports.
James Maddison, making his first competitive start for Spurs since May 2025, opened the scoring with a curling effort into the top corner against the club where his professional career began. The playmaker was influential throughout, linking together a squad that had previously looked disjointed.
Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies also found the net for Tottenham, while Jack Rudoni equalised for Coventry at one point. The scoreline ultimately reflected Spurs' dominance, but the match will also be remembered for the long-awaited return of Dejan Kulusevski, who came on after 526 days sidelined through injury.
Kulusevski's Emotional Comeback
Kulusevski's return after more than 17 months out is a massive boost for Tottenham. The Swedish international's absence had been keenly felt, and his introduction on Monday night provided a fairytale moment for the home fans. His energy and creativity will be crucial as Spurs look to climb the table.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi had faced questions about his side's slow start, but a week-long training camp in Marbella appears to have rejuvenated the squad. The £300m worth of talent at De Zerbi's disposal finally looked cohesive, with Maddison pulling the strings and Marmoush providing a clinical edge.
What This Means for the Season
While one win does not erase the challenges ahead, it provides a platform for Tottenham to build on. The Premier League is unforgiving, and Spurs will need to string together results to climb into contention for European places. The return of Kulusevski and the form of Maddison are positive signs.
For Coventry, the defeat leaves them still searching for consistency. Rudoni's goal was a bright spot, but they were ultimately outclassed by a Spurs side desperate for a win.
Next up for Tottenham is another crucial fixture, and fans will be hoping this victory sparks a turnaround. With key players returning and the squad gelling, there is renewed optimism around the club.
